In the upcoming meetings, the commissioners are expected to discuss with public the ENCDC mission and to set up a local congress committee that will work in cooperation with ENCDC to facilitate in mobilizing and organizing the public for the upcoming congress.

In the past month there were many public meetings at different cities of Sweden, Germany, UK, Holland, Norway, Swiss, Canada, USA, Australia, Ethiopia, Sudan and other places. These commission public meetings were being held in conjunction with public meetings that were aiming at informing the public about Eritrean National Conference for Democratic Change that was held in Addis Ababa between July 31 and August 10, 2010. In these meetings, the public got the chance to gain the facts, listen to personal testimonies and answers to their questions about the National Conference from their respective representatives who attended the National Conference.

In addition, during these past meetings the commissioners were introduced and reintroduced to the public as they took every opportunity to explain ENCDC‘s formation, main objectives, its activities and future plans. The public and different organizations have been very much involved in preparing these public meetings, discussing the shortcomings and achievements of the Waa’la and paving the way for the ENCDC to establish its footings in all cities and regions. At these meetings, it has been reported that the public were delighted to see such organized and informative meetings and left with satisfaction and high hope to see ENCDC objectives materialize soon.

It is to be recalled that the commission is organizing itself in five regions: Europe, North America, Australia, Middle East and Africa. ENCDC chairman Amha Domenico said that “the spirit that many Eritreans have shown to work together with the commission at local levels is adding vigor to ENCDC and the commissioners.” ENCDC has clear objectives and mandate; we will make sure ENCDC objectives are met by working with all democratic forces who are willing to work together with ENCDC, the chairman added. ENCDC’s main objective is “to bring all forces of democratic change together to the expected congress which may enable us to bring change in Eritrea as expeditiously as possible,” he further elaborated.

Commissioner Aisha Mussa Gaas who was a speaker at the public meeting that was held on Sept. 11, 2010 in Stockholm said that “I am continuing to witness the maturity, eagerness and the commitment that I have seen at the National Conference in Addis are being reflected in the public meetings in Stockholm and elsewhere and this makes me very optimistic.” She also said, “I am pleased by the turn out, the interest and the support the public has shown for ENCDC and the energy and willingness to work with the commission”

Commissioner Teclesenbet Teclai who participated at the public meeting that was held on Sept. 26, 2010 in Koln, Germany stressed that the public should pay no attention to unproductive partisan bickering, and that everyone should rise up above and beyond partisan interest and work to make the upcoming congress a success.

“The fact that the public is taking ownership of the National Conference and defending any disinformation campaign by presenting the facts of the Waa’la is new phenomenon and encouraging,” said commissioner Daniel Weldetnsae who was organizing the meeting in London, UK that was held on Sept. 18, 2010.

Commissioner Idris Nuru who is a member of the Mobilization committee of ENCDC underlined that, “the commission has an open door policy and welcomes everyone who aspires for democratic change in Eritrea to work with the commission in organizing, mobilizing and to be part of the solution.”

Furthermore, the chairman of ENCDC North America Mr. Hailemariam Tesfamichael who chaired a public meeting in San Diego that was held on Sept. 4, 2010 expressed his wishes by saying that, “This year I hope it will be a year of cooperation not competition among organizations civic or political; after we hand over power to the people, we can proudly compete and claim one is better or bigger than the other"

Mr. Kibrom Debru who is the general auditor of the ENCDC and who is also in charge of North America Media for ENCDC explained that public mobilization in Toronto is already underway and Eritreans in Toronto have already met on Sept. 18, 2010 with the commission and formed a local committee of 25 members that works closely with ENCDC. In addition, Eritreans in Toronto have been selling report of the National Conference on DVD and Newsletter which also helped to raise funds to cover some of the expenses. “It seems that the month of October will be very busy for the commission; and that these public meetings are going to be intensified and will continue worldwide in all five regions.” commissioner Kibrom added.
