Representatives of various Eritrean civic organisations and concerned individuals from across the Eritrean diaspora met in London for a-two-day peace conference on the 18 and 19 December 2009.The main objective of the conference was to deliberate on the development of a coherent and practical tool designed to promote the culture of peace in Eritrea and the Horn of Africa.

The conference was initiated and organized by a London based group, who have been working to frame the issues and convene the conference for a number of months. The participants all motivated and driven by the concern over the ongoing, and potential social, political, economic and environmental crises and the danger of violent conflict facing Eritrea and the Horn of Africa, discussed issues led by papers presented by invited guests and members of the organizing group. After intensive and engaging discussions on many challenging issues concerning Eritrea and the wider Horn of Africa region, the conference agreed on the following points: 

1. To draft a peace charter with a wider participation of stakeholders

2. To disseminate the draft charter to all Eritrean civic society organizations, political parties, religious organizations and individuals and invite their contribution

3. To call a bigger conference to ratify the charter in 2010
