Immigration Detainees in Egypt Fear for their Lives

(Cairo, Feb 01, 2011) Release Eritrea has just received disturbing news of serious threats to Eritrean and other Africa immigration detainee’s safety amidst the disorder during the protests in Egypt.
Many police officers are said to be facing threats from the public and have gone into hiding leaving police stations unguarded. In the city of Rafa, Bedouins, are said to have, burnt down several police stations and are currently in charge of the prison cells, where many immigration detainees are being held.
Release Eritrea requests that all concerned Christians fervently pray for the safety of Eritrean refugees during this political turmoil in Egypt. The charity also calls on the UNHCR and other humanitarian organisations to protect the refugees and secure their safety as a matter of urgency.
