Eritrea: ERITREAN TOWNS ON THE BRINK
Indicative of the ever worsening economic state of affairs in Eritrea, various towns and cities in the country are quickly turning into ghost towns with hardly any noticeable presence of business activities. According to various sources, the streets of the once hustling and bustling towns of Akordat, Tessenei and Keren look as good as deserted. "It's hard to believe there were any kind of businesses operating here," said one eyewitness who did not wish to be named for security reasons. "All that is left here is damaged pavements and unattended potholes everywhere you see," she further noted.
In a country where reliably verified information is hard to come by, the government in Asmara has been claiming Eritrea had embarked on a path of economic prosperity yet to be witnessed anywhere else in Africa.
