Eritrea - Hanna Petros Testimony: Victim of torture & former conscript of indefinite 'National Service'
Hanna is a victim of torture and former conscript of the indefinite 'National Service' akin to Modern Slavery imposed on the youth by the regime in Eritrea. Her parents are prisoners of conscience Petros Solomon (G15) and his wife Aster Yohannes who are still incarcerated. Nobody knows their exact whereabouts since they are being shackled in Incommunicado, without trial, due process or visitation rights since 2001 and 2003 respectively.
This is her testimony but as Hanna put it this is also "A common story of Eritrean youth in search of freedom which the government of Eritrea has denied us".
The UN Commission of Inquiry (COI) report recently exposed to the world the gross and systematic human rights violations by the Eritrean regime which amounts to Crimes Against Humanity. Eritrea has been described as the North Korea of Africa ruled not by Laws but Fear.
Eritreans are second only to Syrians in the number of boat arrivals, though the country is a fraction of Syria’s size and there’s no live civil war there.
